The US rock band called REM has announced today their split. They have post it this morning in their website. The notice is clear: “To anyone who ever felt touched by aour music, our deepest thanks for listening”.
REM was formed in Athens, Georgia in 1980 by Michael Stipe. REM is one of the most alternative rock bands.
In 1990s REM was seen such as Nirvana. They sung Out of Time (1991) and Automatic for the people (1994). REM is considered the most liberal and politically correct rock band. REM helped in environmental, feminist and human right causes. Their discography begun with Mumur (1983), Reckoning (1984), Fables of the Reconstructions (1985) and ends with Accelerate (2008) and the last one Collapse into Now (2011). They have won three Grammies and lots of more premiums.
Four of REM’s albums in the 1990s went platinum in the Great Britain, peaking with Automatic for the people, which sold more than 1,8 millions of copies. The group was originally formed with the singer Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills and the drummer Bill Berry, who left the band in 1997.
REM have often used their music and power to fight against wars and injustices with their strong message behind their song’s words. In 2009 REM fought in order to close Guantanamo in the George H.W. Bush presidency. I have seen a post in Twitter:”RIP REM” that I think that it’s awful. Some local radios said a fantastic words: “ And they end with dignity. Most won’t”. Wow!
