Sheffield

I choose this place, because I stayed there last summer. I have been in Sheffield for three weeks and I liked it. I love the place, it’s a very different place that here also I like the town, the typical culture and the buildings that are around the Sheffield. But I don’t like the weather and people because there was a full of different kind of people.

Sheffield has a global reputation as synonymous with hard work and high quality. There are plenty of buildings and business. Sheffield is a city and metropolitan borough of South Yorkshire, England. Its name derives from the River Sheaf, which runs through the city. Moreover we can find the second largest shopping center of all England called Meaddle Hall. It's enormous, beautiful and full of shops. When I stayed in Sheffield I went three times o four and I didn't see all of it.

Apart from this, we can visit others things, for example the Greenspace. It's a square in the middle of the city, which has a big fountain that comes from the floor and changing sizes. In the north we find the largest church in all of Sheffield and all around the square is a kind of green gardens where people can sit there. Others places we could visit are the theatres, the museums, the Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, the graves park and ''Rare Breeds'' centre... Perople also could do sport in Rollerblading disco at skate Central, swimming at Ponds Forge Fun Pools, Ice Skating at ''iceSheffield'' International Rinks...

In conclusion, I found Sheffield a good place to live. There are good places to relax, grat restaurants to eat, differents types of food, and good museums or theatres to visit. I recommend you to visit Shefield.

Canada

INTRODUCTION:

Canada is a country in the northern part of North America, bordered by the United States of America to both the south & to the west (Alaska). By area, Canada is the second largest country in the world in land area, after Russia. It has the longest border with water (coastline) of any country in the world. It is next to the Pacific, Arctic, and Atlantic Oceans.
Around 34.8 million people live in Canada's ten provinces and three territories, with the majority living in the southern sections of Canada. This is almost the same number as in the US State of California.
Canada has six time zones.
Canada Day on July 1: This is an opportunity to gather in our communities, from coast to coast, and to proudly celebrate all we have in common and to celebrate our achievements, which were born in the audacious vision and shared values of our ancestors, and which are voiced in nearly all of the languages of the world through the contribution of new Canadians.

Canada Day is a time to celebrate the heritage passed down to us through the works of our authors, poets, artists and performers. It is a time to rejoice in the discoveries of our scientific researchers, in the success of our entrepreneurs, and to commemorate our history.

FOOD AND DRINK:

Canadians eat a lot of beef and chicken, less pork then and some lamb. Other speciality meats such as bison (buffalo) is fairly easy to find. Canadians seem reluctant to eat other animals. Horse meat and goat aren't very typical.

Canada specialities:
Maple syrup: Canada is famous for maple syrup and maple syrup products. Canada makes about 80 percent of the world's maple syrup and the majority comes from the region of Quebec.

Poutine: Poutine, although originating in Quebec, is now found across Canada and is considered a typically Canadian dish. It is basically potato chips topped with curd cheese and gravy. Poutine varies across the regions, with some of the Maritime provinces adding meat to the dish, while other provinces use different types of cheeses.

Barbecue: Canadians love to barbecue. You will find barbecues in almost every yard (garden) and on many decks and balconies. Even a small balcony that is only large enough to hold perhaps two chairs will also have a barbecue. Most barbecues are gas and covered so they are easy to light up all year round. It is normal for Canadian families to barbecue in the middle of the winter when it is below zero with snow on the ground.

THINGS TO VISIT:

  • CN Tower
A visit to Toronto is never complete without visiting the world's tallest building, the CN tower. It's at 553m above the ground the views of Toronto and Lake Ontario are unbeatable.
    Toronto, Ontario
  • Rocky Mountains (snow train to Jasper)
The Rocky Mountains are an icon of Canada and an unparalleled sight that is impressive in every way.
    Jasper, Alberta
  • Banff National Park and Lake Louise
In the heart of the Canadian Rockies is Banff National Park, a World Heritage Site designated by the UN.
    Banff, Alberta
  • Stanley Park
A pride of Vancouver and the biggest park in the city. Stanely Park is over 1,000 acres in size. Surrounded by the Seawall, a walking, rollerblading and bicycle route that stretches 8km around the park, through original rainforest and past sandy beaches.
    Vancouver, British Columbia
  • Watch Polar Bears at Churchill
Every year around September the northern Manitoba town of Churchill on the edge of Hudson's Bay welcomes its furry white visitors - Polar Bears. The bears move between the ice and the land during this time and pass by the town making polar bear watching tours possible.
    Churchill, Manitoba
  • Canada's Parliament buildings
Loosely modelled after the British houses of Parliament, the Parliament Hill in Ottawa is the centre of Canada's federal government. Centre Block (the main parliament building) is free to visitors and it is possible to see the Commons and Senate.
    Ottawa, Ontario
  • Niagara falls
The Niagara Falls, located on the Niagara River draining Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, is the collective name for the Horseshoe Falls and the adjacent American Falls along with the comparatively small Bridal Veil Falls, which combined form the highest flow rate of any waterfall in the world and has a vertical drop of more than 165 feet (50m). Horseshoe Falls is the most powerful waterfall (vertical height along with flow rate) in North America.

CONCLUSION

We chose this place because Joana went to Ottawa last summer. We think it's an amazing place with a lot of things to visit. Canada is beautiful and it has a wonderful history.
We hope you enjoyed it. =)
Thank you for listening to our oral presentation.

Carnival has begun

Carnival is a festive event during February or March. The typically carnival involves a public celebration, mask and public street party. People often dress up or masquerade during the celebration.

Last Friday night I went to Roses carnival. It is one of the best carnivals here in Alt Empordà. People use to dress up very careful with coloured and shiny. I dress up as a sailor. I wore a kind of dark blue cup with a red ribbon round the head. I wore a striped T-shirt with red skirt.

I fell happy and optimistic. We began the carnival route in front of the sea. We danced all the route from the beginning to the end. The path ended in a big place full of music and crowded the people where everybody danced all the night.

When the party ended we went to a very famous discotheque,Chic. There were plenty of people dressed up with different kind of items: cowboys, firemens, clowns, pirates, witches, etc.

Next Friday I'm going to go the Castelló d'Emúries carnival. We are going to make a route all over the town and we will end in the pavilion where we will dance all the night with my friends. And also in Empuriabrava we'll do the same.

The next two Saturday is Fortià carnival, it is a little different. The party it's only on the might in the pavilion. In there, there are always one music group and the people dance all the night.

There are lots of places where carnival is well know like Venice, Rio de Janeiro or Tenerife. In Venice people use to wear classic clothes with masks in order to full the party with a mysterious costume. And Rio the Janeiro live carnival as a big meeting. All the streets are plenty of people dancing or sambing in the ''Sambódrono''.

Saint Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14. It is a festival of romantic love and many people give cards, letters, flowers or presents to their partners. Common symbols of Valentine's Day are hearts, red roses and Cupid.

Many people celebrate their love for their partner by sending cards or letters, giving gifts or flowers and arranging meals in restaurants or romantic nights in hotels. Valentine's cards are often decorated with images of hearts, red roses or Cupid. Saint Valentine's Day gifts are flowers chocolates, candy, lingerie and champagne or sparkling wine. However, some people use the occasion to present lavish gifts, such as jewellery.

I never celebrate this day because I never had a boyfriend. I saw the other people how gave away presents and things between them, and for them it was a special day, but for me not. This day for me it had little sense until today. Now I have very excited as I have boyfriend since the next July.

In my occasion, my boyfriend stayed very far and we didn't look these day. But for my, the romantic day was the same if he stayed in here. When I returned to home, after the school, I found a very big bunch. I was really excited because I didn't expect it. I never had a bunch and it was very beautiful. Also there was a bracelet with my name and our date.

However I sent him one book made for me with our things, a sweatshirt and also a picture of us framed with a heart shaped frame. All was very romantic.
This day for me, was a very wonderful and fabulous.

Some people from Catalonia don’t celebrate Valentine’s day because we have our love patron. It is Sant Jordi and it’s on 23 April. It’s common to present the boys with books and the girls with red roses in honour to the blood that the dragon shed when Sant Jordi kill the animal.
It doesn’t matter if you celebrated it on February or on April is a special day when the lovers offer their love to other lovers. These days supplies other black days when wars starts or tragic events occur.

We have to celebrate good events to remember the best of the human behaviour.

My talents

Talents are different than skills, in that they tend to be innate rather than learned. Once found, they can develop, but finding them can be tricky. It's partly a process of self-observation and honesty. The rest is learning and practice.

Talents can be very different. They may be artistic or technical, mental or physical, inwardly or outwardly directed.

I'm a person who likes doing lots of things. When is time to study, I'm a good student, but when it comes the time to go the party I'm very fun and enjoyable. I like help people who don't know anything, I'm very responsible and sociable.

I think one of the most talents I do, is to understand people. Actually my friends and people around me come to me. They tell me all of very important and confidentially things. They wait from me my opinion and my advice. And this behaviour has a name: I’m a confidence person.

In the meantime I say everything I don't like in the face. I’m not a spontaneous person but I'm so direct. I don't like the false people and few the people who they have got two faces.

I have other talents like being so empathetic, kind and optimistic. I like doing things like walking, listening to music, and going to the cinema with my boyfriend or friends. I like speaking with my daughter, Laia, long hours about our thoughts. I feel happy in more occasions only with I have had a problem I feel a little sad and I try to speak with somebody close to me in order to solve it.

My childhood

I remember few things from my childhood. But I can think only in good experiences. For example, when I was five, I pulled my sister's hair or I never forget when I fell my first milk tooth. I had more illusion because when I woke up in the morning I found one present under my pillow, but I didn't remember how it was. Those day were fantastic.

Also I and my family went out almost all on Saturdays in the mountain (in Ripoll, Camprodon, Vic...) or in the beach (in l'Estartit, Llançà...) r only went out to eat in anywhere.

Another thing that I remember with affection was in the summer, when I was child I stayed all the time in the swimming pool in l'Estartit, after I had a shower and went with my family in the in the town. There are a famous street and we walked there, more time every year.

In my mind also remember my firs time in the cinema with my friends and my mother. It was very good, I don't never forget.

There is in my childhood a space for the school. I spent lots of years there listening to my teachers, playing with my classmates, studying, doing homework... I have a really good memories of this part of my life.

Above all, this things it's my past and I don't forget never in my life, because all of this are my childhood and I can't complain for anything.

Spanish cuisine

In live in the Mediterranean diet. It consist in healthy food like lots of vegetables, olive oil, tomatoes, peppers, fresh fish, some meat, good wine and natural water, because we have got a good mountains that every year snow, and the water is very well.

A typically recipe is paella (very know in Valencia, composed with saffron rise peas, some meat or fish, beans and a variates of sea food).

But in Catalonia, are of the most typical dish is ''pa amb tomàquet'' bread with tomato and ''botifarra'' a kind of sausage.

The South Spain is popular well know for its tapas. It's typical that when you go to a bar to drink the waiter brings you your drink with some tapes like olives, mini hamburgers, anchvies, etc.

The northern part of Spain is know by the Rivera del Duero wine, the Rioja wine, and empanada of Galicia and la fabada in Asturias.

If you travel to Madrid you would ask for a ''bocata de calamares '' squid sandwich or a good cocido madrileño, like soup. You will be happy and you will feel better.

The Spanish cuisine is a precious treasure that we have to preserve.

Study out of Spain

First of all, I must say that it´s difficult or not easy to the students go to study out of Spain, because you have to be an extrovert and funny person who likes to feel other experiences and you would have to get very good marks to go to a known and famous other school or university, however for going to one country which is not famous and the school or university have not got a good prestige, you do not need to get so good marks. Thus, the truth is that the mark´s grade depends on the university´s country which you want to go.

To begin with, if you travel without the family, friends and maybe boy/girlfriend, you will miss them a lot, and sometimes you could feel depressed or alone. Other disadvantages are that you have to face to another language, culture, foods, manners or modal, weather… Due to this experience, you have to take care of the people of the other country. Also, you could not be used to the kind of food and the different times to have breakfast, lunch, dinner or something so simple like go to the bed or wake up.
Another disadvantage is there you do not have your ever friends, and you must try to find good new and good friends.

Even thought, we have been taking about bad things that you have when you go to study in other place, there are a lot of good things and new experiences that very few people can experiment and feel. The first and maybe also the most important thing (at least to me), is that you do not have to pay money, or if you pay it´s so little, because the majority are subsidized by the government. Other positive things are that you are going to finish your university degree in other country, learning another language, culture… and in general another type of life.

In conclusion, is good for everybody to go to study a different place because it gives to you qualities that you cannot learn if you have not got this experience.

US tornadoes

1 March 2012

Storms and tornadoes have left at least 13 people dead. The states of Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Alabama from the Midwest US have been affected by a considerable among of storms and tornadoes theses last days.
Electrical lines had been broken, services had been cancelled and an unknown number of people are missing.
Meteorologists think that there had been more or less 90 tornadoes and 700 weather events in these last days. This is one of the most catastrophic events in the last one hundred years in these US states. Tornadoes are possibly generated by a cold storm from the Rocky Mountains that hits a warm storm from the East.

This month is an unusual month for tornadoes but surprisingly tornadoes with a very strength are now there. Some towns were completely destroyed (no water service, no electricity and lots of houses are damaged). People are scary for this peak of strong storms and tornadoes.
Rescue workers are searching for survivors trapped in homes, roads and buildings in general. In one town a roof from a school has flown like a weak slice of paper and the bus school has been thrown against a restaurant. The situation is dramatic. At least 40 homes has beendestroyed and 150 has been damaged in only one state.

There was a twister in one state (Illionis) that was classified as the second-highest rating twister all over the times. The tornado was 200 yards (183 m) wide and it generated wind speeds of up to 170 mph (274 km/h). It’s crazy!

Whitney Houston dies

12 February 2012

Whitney Houston lived the best and the worst of a musical career. She was a good singer and a good actress. She lived on the top and on the bottom of the life.

She was the queen of the music from the mid-80s to the late 90s. She was beautiful, kind and with an extraordinary voice. Her father was a gospel singer and she was the goddaughter of Aretha Franklin.

She started singing gospel like her family. Then, she spent her youth singing with such a several well known singers. In 1985 her first record was the biggest-selling album by a debut artist. She surpassed The Beatles.
Her “light” and her powerful voice arrived to Hollywood. In 1992 she starred in The Bodyguard with Kevin Costner. The song in the film won a Grammy and it succeeds all over the countries and generations.
Then she started to abuse drugs (cocaine, marijuana and pills) and the hits stopped.
In 1992 she married with the hip-hop singer Bobby Brown. They has a daughter, Bobbi Kristina (with the divorce in 2007 Whitney got the custody).
Her decline started: she often visited rehab clinics, she missed concert dates and she has been stopped in airports carrying drugs.

And at the end she has been found in a room of a hotel alone and dead in thebath. This was the night before the Grammy ceremony where Adele won all. One star ends and one other begins to brigh

Costa Cruises Sunken

13 January of 2012

A ship carrying more than 4000 people ran aground off Italy. It was the Costa Concordia by the Costa Cruises. There were authentic scenes of panic in the Costa Concordia hit on Friday evening near the island of Giglio.
Passengers from Italy (1000), Germany (500) and France (160) were on boat. Passengers were eating dinner when they heard a loud noise and the captain said that they had electrical problems. After it was announced a general emergency and the worst part started. Most of the people reached land by lifeboats in a scary atmosphere. These scenes reminded scenes from the film Titanic. They were scared and freezing...some of them died. Helicopters evacuated the last 50 people trapped on the ship.
Rescued passengers were accommodated in hotels and schools in Giglio. Coast guard officials think the tragedy passed as a result of sailing too close to an obstacle like a reef. At the end, sadly, 32 people were dead.

One month later, another tragedy occurred. Costa Allegra was sailing with 135 Italian, 127 French, 97 Austrians, 90 Swiss, 38 Germans and 31 Britons when it sunk. They sailed from Alphonse Island to the main island in the Seychelles in the Indic Ocean close to Africa. A fire in the ship’s generator room on Monday caused it to lose all power.
Surprisingly the ship is from the same fleet as the Costa Concordia, Costa Cruises. The ship is at the southern end of the seas where they were vulnerable to attacks by Somali pirates.

So, is it safe to travel by boat? Let me think.

Should the experience on human life have limits?

Nowadays technology and science are very developed, especially in the first countries. The limits are very far. The people have in their houses medicine, computers, phones, machines...

I agree with the idea that the experiments on human life shoved have limits because people have to experiment with the body, the thought... And people want to know more things about their body, an why they have problems with their health... And I think that for these things experimention is very good.
On the other hand, I disagree with this idea because on day in the future those experiments will be wrong. For example, the facebook, the people know every thing you do, at any time... the other bad thing is the scientific experiments, like the CERN, for example it is good to discover new things but it is dangerous for the other people.
The people are able to experiment the evolution, the life... But one day these things will not be okey.

I think now it is impossible to stop technology and science. And humans must be aware that there may come a point very dangerous, because one day will come to cause wars because of technology.

Description: Laia

Pirates of the caribean: the curse of the Black Pearl

This film is about the strange tale of Capitan Jock Sparrow, with Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann. She is the daughter of the governor and she fall in love with Will, a young clever boy. The young woman is kidnapped by other Capitan, Barbossa (he is commanding Jack's ship, The Black Pear).

She wears a precious jewel around her sensitive neck, an Aztec gold jewel full of meanings. Will and Jack Sparrow become friends and they decided to go off searching for Elizabeth. It isn't until they all meet up that they discover the real truth behind the Aztec gold, and why they are all together.

Together they must battle a band of the word's most treacherous pirated, led by Capitan Barbossa in order to save Elizabeth. They arrive on the mysterious Dead Island where they meet a strange woman full of mystery. Will and Sparrow are dashing their swords when they decided to recapture The Black Pearl ship, save the British navy.

Barbossa abandoned Jack on a deserted island, but Jack escape. Some years later, Jack arrives in Port Royale to steal a ship (because he's a pirate and he makes these king of things).

Barbossa attacks Port Royale, searching for the last gold coin need to end an ancient Aztec curse. For the reason, he kidnap Elizabeth. The believe she is the daughter of long gone shipmate, Boot strap Bill.

But Jack knows that is Will Turner the son of Bootstrap Bill and that he is kidnap, too.

The story ends with a to be continued because the stories of Will, Elizabeth and Capitans Jack Sparrow and Barbossa have lost started.

This film is full of adventure and fun. I find it good to recommend to someone else. It has all the ingredients: sad and fun, well-mixed. The landscapes are so different: Seas, ships, swords and Caribbean islands...
I like this film and when I saw it, I thought that this film are continued by others films.

Description of a person

Laia is my little sister. She's not tall and thin. She has got brown eyes and straight brown long hair. She's very kind, really friendly and sympathetic. However, she isn't very extroverted and not at all shy. Her best characteristic is her chattiness.

Apart from that she is my sister, and is a bit nasty to me and a annoying person. She never listens to my opinion. She and I are very competitive for marks. But, moreover (in the deep down our heart) we love each other so much. When we stay calm, the things are good. In other words she's very attractive, a polite person, but when she's with her family or people she knows, she changes (her character), but she's never aggressive.

I remembered when we used to spend our summer holidays in l'Estartit. We both enjoy going to the beach or the swimming pool in the mornings. We used to eat an ice cream every afternoon with our cousin. Sometimes we went to the pitch-and-hutch at night with our parents. Laia used to win always. She looked happy and realised. I used to enjoy seeing her playing the little ball and smiling all the time.

On the whole she's a very good person and she's reliable. She is bit impulsive, but I prefer the way she behaves. I love my sister, and I hope she never changes.

Dear Mrs. Pintó,

I'm a student in the high school that you manage. I'm writing this letter because I think there are many things I don't like and things that I like.

On the one hand, I'm going to explain the good things in my school centre. At this season I love the decoration on the corridor, I think the stars, the Christmas tree and also the black crib are nice for the high school. I believe that year by year this high school is more beautiful and attractive than before. Moreover, the other positive things are the fact of having computers and digital boards, there are also good teachers and above all, people use the loudspeakers more than the other years.

On the other hand, the bad things in this school are that batxillerat people can't go out of the school when one teacher doesn’t come one day or one hour. This is one thing, and the second thing is that I disagree with the bathroom door that is closed during the day and there isn’t paper there. And finally I don't understand why people don't retacke the subject, they have to be in the class and do the exam.

In conclusion, this school could be better because there are so many things that need to be improved. I'd be interested if you could look at and try to improve it.

Thank you very much.

Yours sincerely,

Elisabet D.
