This
year we didn’t win Eurovision as usual. This festival is an annual
competition held by European countries. It celebrated in May where
the country of the last festival won. Each member of the countries
submits a song to the festival and it is voted by the others one.
Every
year Eurovision has a strange performance or a strange song that
could be the result of wining the festival. Several years ago a group
of Nordic dinosaurian men dressed with their guitars won with a heavy
song. Or, another year a blond pretty girl won with a performance
like a cabaret full of changes in her appearance in public such as a
long black dress which became in a very short red dress in a few
seconds. Spain participated with a freaky song submit by
Chiquilicuatre was favourite to win but it didn’t work).
This
year is not different as usual. A group of Russian grannies are the
favourite to win. They were from a remote village in the Ural
Mountains. They sang a typical Russian song dressed as a typical
cultural way. The oldest of them is 76, which makes her the oldest
Eurovision participant as ever. But, at the end, they didn’t win.
A
group of Irish twins, John and Edward Grimes, were the most voted the
Tuesday night’s semi-final so they passed to the big final on
Saturday with the grannies and, of course, Spain. The 20-year-old
twins dressed in silver and gold costumes with spiky hair. The
performance ended with the brothers jumping into a fountain in the
middle of the stage.
Finally
was Sweden who won the festival with a song called Euphoria.
Spain ended in a 10 positions carried by Pastora Soler.
Eurovision
is always synonym as an event to celebrate kitsch entertainment. In
my opinion, the festival is an old-fashioned event that agglutinated
freaky people. It is such a long time that Spain doesn’t win this
festival. In this kind of festival is mixed other things far from
music and talent. It is full of political interests that make curious
things in the votes. For example, Germany only gave us one point and
Greece gave us ten points. This is why we have a strong relationship
with Greece (Queen Sophia has her roots in Greece) and Germany is
angry with us for not doing our financial homework. So, this kind of
things shouldn’t have to pass.
